Bear at the Door
Ryan looked at the patient's report. There was progress. The new medicine had been working, slowly but steadily. However, there still was as much progress as he had hoped. The patient did not have much time. He either had to up the dosage or switch the medicine. However, this was the only medicine that the patient's body had not reacted adversely to. He knew he would have to make a decision fast. But deep down he found himself wishing for the medicine to not work.
As Ryan was taking care of this patient her, he knew his baby girl was struggling for her life at another other hospital just a couple of miles away. He had quickly figured that his patient was a potential match for his daughter. It was something he found himself doing every time he would get a patient these days. He would wish that patient would be a match and he knew his daughter did not have much time as the days went by.
"Dr. Ryan?" He turned around as he saw his nurse looking at him. "What do we do?"
"Increase the dose. He is showing improvement. I will go talk to his family to deliver the good news." He turned around knowing that he might just have lost all hope for his baby's survival.
