Chap 5

I held onto the handlebar for dear life
The saddle felt uncomfortable as I tried to adjust myself
Too afraid to take my feet off the ground
Even though my bicycle had 2 extra wheels
And my papa held onto the spare seat behind me
He kept trying to push me forward
“I’m here”, he says “I won’t let go”
So I took a deep breath and closed my eyes,
Put my feet on the pedal and started to turn
Before I knew it I was soaring towards the horizon at full speed
Papa said “Open your eyes bug. You’re doing it!”
I did as told and couldn’t help being oh so happy
So I turned around to tell him that I did it!
Only to see him far off in the distance
And my cycle moving on its own
My smiled turned to a shout
As my face hit the ground

  1. Syeda,
When you settle in and really try to show a moment with detail and description and dialogue, then the magic happens on the page. Even if this one ends with a smack! it's a poem that truly captures a moment!
